Camp Nurse


Adventure Wilderness Residential Camp will be held at Springmaid Mountain Resort in Spruce Pines, NC.  Adventure Wilderness Camp is co-ed offered for campers who are rising 5th through rising 9th graders. Campers will experience a variety of activities including specialized and traditional camp activities. This is an overnight camp, from Sunday to Saturday.

Camps ages: Rising 5th through rising 9th graders

Camp Training Sessions:

June 14th – 18th at Anne Springs Close Greenway, times TBD (attendance preferred, not required)

July 21st – 24th at Springmaid Mountain Resort (attendance required)

Camp Dates: July 25th – August 14th, Sunday – Saturday

Staff arrival Tuesday, July 20th

Camp hours:  This is an overnight camp, running from Sunday – Saturday. Camper drop-off will be Sunday afternoon; camper pick-up will be Saturday morning.

Camp Location: Springmaid Mountain Resort, Spruce Pines, NC


Licensed Registered Nurse is responsible for the implementation of the camp healthcare policy, daily oversight and handling camper and staff medication, assessing camper and staff illnesses, and supporting the overall health of camp. The position will receive a stipend each week plus room and board if needed.


Oversee the healthcare check-in, including accepting OTC, prescription, and life-saving medication
Maintain medication distribution schedules and administer all medications including OTC and prescription medications
Provide basic health care services and recommend OTC as needed
Complete staff and camper health screenings and daily temperature checks
Assess any medical incidents or injuries of campers or staff reported at camp
Maintain incident and illness report records
Ensures COVID protocols are being followed and maintained at a high standard
Effective communication with parents and counselors
Oversee and maintain camp infirmary and first aid supplies
Apply healthcare policies and procedures to all health related incidents at camp
Maintain high standards of safety and security to prevent accidents and to respond appropriately in emergency situations
Is considered part of the leadership team and assists groups as necessary, as well as helping with bunk checks at night and other potential responsibilities
Review camp health policies and offer suggestions for improvement
All other job duties as assigned

Ability to interact with all age levels
Prefer certification in Wilderness First Aid

Must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Must hold an active North Carolina RN license and be able to legally practice in North         Carolina
Must be 21 years of age or older
Must be able to attend the week of camp training
Must be able to work all three weeks of residential camp


Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications
Child Abuse prevention training, will train
Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record
Required to live on-site during duration of training and camp


Some physical requirements of a Camp Nurse position include: endurance, prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, biking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 25lbs; daily exposure to inconsistent weather conditions such as sun, heat, or rain and animals such as bugs and snakes, etc.
