Adult Education English as a Second Language Teacher

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required

SC certification in a recognized field with a strong GPA in course work is required

English Certification is preferred, but not required

ESL add-on endorsement or extensive course work in ESL is preferred

Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and assessment techniques for ESL students

Strong communication skills

Proficient in multiple languages

Ability to work independently to accomplish pre-determined goals

Ability to teach in an environment with varying cultures and dialects

High level of motivation and initiative to develop structures to maximize student achievement and program success

Experience working with middle and/or high school students

Willingness to work with teachers on ESOL staff development needs

Skills in interpersonal communication with parents, students, and teachers

Outstanding references from current and former supervisors

Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report


Salary Range:        Teacher Salary Schedule


Length of Contract:   Part-time/Approximately 25 hours per week


Starting Date:    Immediately upon selection


College transcripts, three references, and a copy of appropriate credentials should also be submitted during the application process.
