OVERVIEW

Under occasional supervision assists in providing excellent guest services to members and guests of the golf course.  Assists in managing the pro shop and associated services, scheduling and overseeing golf play and the daily operation of the pro shop.  Reports to the GM/Head Golf Professional.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Assumes management of the pro shop and associated services in the absence of the Golf Professional
Assists in supervising staff, both inside and outside services; supervisory duties include scheduling; instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee discipline and discharge
Is an expert on the POS system able to train staff and troubleshoot issues
Supervises the work of subordinates for guest service and quality, ensuring guest transactions are accurate and complete; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed
Monitors range setup, including rotation, in coordination with the Superintendent
Is continually monitoring services for quality and opportunities for improvement
Orders, stocks, markets and sells pro shop merchandise; orders necessary equipment and supplies
Rents golf carts; collects greens fees; assigns tee times; ensures efficient flow of play on course
Responsible for course set up for events and tournaments as requested by the Head Golf Professional
Registers participants for golf tournaments; promotes tournament participation; manages all tournament events with coordinator
Communicates and works with Golf Course Superintendent on a daily basis
Maintains records of golf handicaps
Interprets the rules of golf and makes decisions on golf rulings
Becomes acquainted with members and other frequent golfers and maintains positive rapport with members and guests
Performs routine administrative/office duties (i.e. verifying and editing payroll, monthly petty cash reports, maintains inventory and processes monthly reports, attending meetings, maintaining financial records, copying and filing documents, entering computer data, answering telephone, etc.)
Operates / utilizes a variety of equipment and tools (i.e. computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, golf cart, golf clubs, etc.)
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals (i.e. immediate supervisor, other staff, subordinates, customers, sales representatives, tournament committee members, and the general public)
Ability to work weekends and/or holidays
Performs other duties as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
Fundamental supervisory practices and principles

Utilize the resources of player development programs (i.e. Get Golf Ready, PGA Sports Academy, Tee it Forward and others)
Experienced computer user including; Microsoft Outlook, Point of Sale, Handicapping & tournament, as well as other applications, i.e. email, internet, database
Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by three to five years of golf course experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
PGA Certification preferred

Pro Shop Attendants, Cart / Range Attendant, Starters/Rangers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, telephone, golf clubs, golf carts, etc.  Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, and lift and/or carry weights of up to ten pounds, to remain on feet for extended periods of time, and to skillfully play and/or demonstrate the game of golf.
