Mechanical Engineer – Piping – Steam

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems by developing and testing specifications and methods. This individual will perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, preparation, operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment as (but not limited to) centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.

Essential Duties & Functions

• create project scheduling and execute on time completions; managed budgets and interfaced with contractors throughout the bid process

• Lead and maintain equipment to ensure compliance and adherence with all safety, environmental and other regulatory compliances

• Track and identify engineering expense and capital budgeting compliance

• Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods

• Develops and evaluates mechanical and electromechanical products by designing and studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials and soliciting observations from operators

• Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications

• Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components

• Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes

• Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew

• Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends

• Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations

• Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications

• Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special services

• Maintains system and product database by writing computer programs and entering data

• Develop and execute activities involving continuous improvement tools, analysis of product irregularities, recommending solutions and facilitating cost down initiatives related to improving product costs. These duties could include assisting in training and instruction of appropriate team members and day-to-day floor support

• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

• Perform other duties of equal or less complexity as assigned or directed

• Creativity, design, analytical and technical writing skills

• Ability to conduct test sample prep and installation/removal

• A basic understanding of science and technology in applicable disciplines

• A basic comprehension of statistical design and analysis; cause-and-effect analysis; risk analysis; lean principles

• Display data interpretation skills, and the ability to apply this skill to product development

• Ability to accomplish assignments in a logical fashion, using existing technology and standardized methodologies

• Computerized layout, spreadsheet and database management skills are essential

• Ability to understand plant layouts, capital estimating, associate-man computations, tire cost structure, manufacturing equipment processes

• Equipment design experience and project engineering or project management role is preferred

• Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner

• Exposure with equipment maintenance, control engineering and production planning Supervisory Responsibilities This position is not expected to have supervisory responsibilities

Education and/or Experience

• BS Degree in Engineering

• Requires minimum 5-8 years of work related experience

• Proven working experience in mechanical engineering or similar disciplines is considered a plus

• Working experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

• Hands-on experience with MS Project, computer-aided engineering (CAM) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAE)

• Familiarity with 2D or 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ProE or other)

• Adequate knowledge of engineering analysis tools (ANSYS, ProMechanica or similar)

• Mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge (Matlab, Excel, LabView etc)

• Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science
