Maintenance Planner

Job Summary

Maintenance planners help develop strategies for preventive and predictive maintenance systems. They also are responsible for ordering parts and making sure that repairs and maintenance are done in an accurate and high-quality manner. The maintenance planner must also participate in the safety and health programs as needed. These professionals work closely with the maintenance managers to build reliable maintenance systems and teams. They also work with other maintenance employees and preventive managers to perform different tasks, such as routine checkups.

  • Maximizing operating profit through using planned maintenance where it is more effective than alternatives. (A possible measure of success might be ‘number of planned jobs verses the total number of jobs’ in a week or month)
  • Maximizing equipment reliability through using planned maintenance most effectively. (A possible measure of success might be ‘how long each piece of equipment ran at full design capability after planned maintenance was done’.)
  • Quickly returning equipment to design capability through using planned maintenance most effectively. (A possible measure of success might be ‘time to repair from the second the equipment stopped to the second after it was re-commissioned, tested and proven stable in-service’.)
  • Maximizing equipment availability through most effectively using planned maintenance. (A possible measure of success might be ‘lost production time due to planned maintenance per week or month’.)

Essential Duties & Functions

  • Planning maintenance work orders, the repairs, servicing and efficient functioning of all machinery and equipment in a plant
  • Will determine the technical documentation that will support the craftsman
  • Will work with necessary departments to enforce:
  • Lockout Policy
  • Confined Space
  • Hearing Conservation
  • Sight Preservation
  • Emergency Response and Fire Prevention
  • Hazard Communication
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Complies with Federal, State and Local regulations
  • Managing data collection and information gathering
  • Keep operating equipment in the condition to deliver full design duty (reliability), to insure plan & equipment run properly
  • Organizes training and provides appropriate documentation for training

  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Follow all standard operating procedures relevant to the job, position and department
  • Follow established company and department policies, procedures, work instructions and safety and environmental guidelines
  • Perform all other duties of equal or less complexity as assigned or directed
  • Engage and retain high-performance standards and elevate level of responsibility and performance

Skills/Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Be able to multi-task, due to handling multiple repair needs and systems

Education and/or Experience

  • Technical Degree, or certificate: or equivalent technical experience and education
  • Minimum 3 years work related experience
