Die Shop Technician I

Job Summary

Responsibilities include layout, construction and maintaining rotary dies. Use hand tools, read and follow die specifications, and meet production deadlines. Experience operating conventional machines and working in a production-oriented and results driven environment is applicable.

Essential Duties & Functions

• Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for dies or assemblies

• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators

• Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications

• Responsible for ensuring that all machines and measurement equipment are calibrated regularly as needed and in compliance

• Conduct test runs with completed dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary

• React quickly to equipment downtime or other extraordinary condition, and must notify supervision whenever such conditions occur

• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations

• Notifies team lead associate of machine malfunction

• Follow all standard operating procedures relevant to the job, position and department

• Maintain clean work environment by regular cleaning and upkeep

• Follow established company and department policies, procedures, work instructions and safety and environmental guidelines

• Performs all other job duties as assigned

• Engage and retain high-performance standards and elevate level of responsibility and performance


• Strong self-starter who can work with little or no supervision

• Must possess basic skills to setup, load and unload material from manual and automated equipment with little supervision

• Must possess basic computer skills, data entry skills and the ability to operate and load simple computer programs to run the equipment

• Ability to operate with speed and accuracy, and maintain a team player attitude

• Demonstrate the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment

• Requires strong communication, interpersonal, business, technical, analytical, and planning skills

• Must have the ability to and expedite solutions when situations arise

• Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field

Education and/or Experience

• HS or GED required

• 2 or 4 year technical related degree preferred

• Ideally 1 to 3 years direct experience in a passenger car tire manufacturing setting

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment may be noisy.
