Adventure Seekers – Lead Camp Counselor

CAMP OVERVIEW

The Adventure Seekers Series Summer Camp at Anne Springs Close Greenway is a series of day camps offering outdoor adventure, including activities such as kayaking, hiking, archery, field games, mountain biking (Trekkers & Adventurers), fishing, and campfire. Adventure Seekers provides campers the opportunity to unplug and get outside, all while making friends and learning life skills in a fun and supportive atmosphere!

Camps ages: Rising 1st through rising 3rd graders (Seekers)

Rising 5th – rising 9th graders (Trekkers & Adventurers)

Camp Training Sessions:

May 26 – 28th – Leadership Staff Training, times TBD (attendance required)

June 14th – 18th – All Staff training, times TBD (attendance required)

Camp Dates: June 21 – August 6, Monday – Friday

Camp Hours: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

–    Early drop off between 7:30-9:00 am

–    Late pick up from 4:00-5:00 pm – Seekers

–    Late pick up from 4:00-6:00 pm – Trekkers & Adventurers

Camp Location:

•    Founders Dairy Barn, Anne Springs Close Greenway (Seekers)

•    Hampton Wildlife Fund Adventure Center and Bob Reid Field Trial Barn (Trekkers & Adventurers)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Lead Counselors are role model counselors, bridging and supporting both camp counselors and other camp leadership staff. In this role, lead counselors should be able to model a variety of ideal behaviors and actions, while guiding peer camp counselors.

KEY FUNCTIONS

•    Serve as a role model counselor for camp counselor staff

•    Ensure all camp policies and procedures are being followed by staff and campers

•    Support and motivate camp counselor staff, to include tasks such as observations, behavior modeling, & conflict resolution support

•    Responsible for cleanliness and organization of assigned area; ensure campers and staff treat all persons as well as camp and personal property with respect

•    Maintain high standards of safety and security to prevent accidents and to respond appropriately in emergency situations

•    Is considered part of the leadership team and assists groups as necessary

•    Ensures COVID protocols are being followed and maintained at a high standard

•    All other job duties as assigned

•    Ability to interact with all age levels

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. •    Must be 18 years of age or older

•    Must be able to attend both weeks of leadership staff and all staff training

•    Ability to work majority of the summer. All camp staff get one consecutive week off during summer

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

•    Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications

•    Child Abuse prevention training; will train

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Some physical requirements of a Lead Counselor position could be endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, biking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs; daily exposure to inconsistent weather conditions such as sun, heat, or rain and animals such as bugs and snakes, etc.
