GM/Head Golf Professional

OVERVIEW

The General Manager/Head Golf Professional directs all aspects of the facility including its clubhouse, golf and administrative operations. Coordinates and oversees the golf operations and food & beverage staffs while working cooperatively with other department heads. The position will promote an exceptional “golf experience,” and provide excellent services and programs for all patrons.

KEY FUNCTIONS

General Management

Responsible for the financial and operational performance of the golf services, membership and food and beverage operations
Ensure all financial goals and objectives are being achieved
Assist in the development and preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis
In keeping with facility goals, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage
Schedules and chairs regular staff meetings focused on customers, operations, revenue growth, cost containment and continuous improvement
Assures operational compliance with local, state, and federal laws
Monitors the performance of all daily operations, functions and services; assures high standards and total customer satisfaction
Oversees the care and maintenance of all physical assets and facilities
Ensures the highest standards for golf services and programs, golf course and practice areas, food and beverage, recreation, entertainment, and other facility services
Foster open communication within the facility
Develops and maintains all customer safety and emergency policies and procedures
Golf Operations Management

Track and verify all players and guests, golf cars, club care, lockers, handicap fees, and other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping
Establish sales goals and forecasts for all golf programs and services; generate, monitor and analyze report
Meet, greet, and welcome prospective customers/patrons
Oversee and enforce golf shop operations policies, procedures, controls, and fee structures to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources
Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage
Oversee golf car fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and recordkeeping
Develop, maintain, update, and utilize customer database including important dates, spending, sizes, preferences
Coordinate with the Director of Golf and oversee retail merchandise concession in step with the mission of the golf operation and facility, while maintaining profitability
Supervise physical inventories, present a diverse and desirable array of merchandise, apparel, and accessories
Oversee the administration of the golf handicap program
Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and provide advice on course playability and tournament set up
Coordinate plans with the Food and Beverage Manager/staff for all food and beverage needs, on-course food and beverage needs, banquets, outside events, and catering for all golf functions
Oversee the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play
Develop and manage an innovative tournament and group outing program that services all customer segments
Develop, maintain, update, and utilize customer database
Develop and oversee player development programs to maximize revenues and participation
Utilize the resources of PGA programs such as Get Golf Ready, PGA Sports Academy, and others
Partner with The First Tee program to help develop community junior golf programs
Assist with the training of the full facility staff in regard to player development and encourage their participation
Oversee the operations of a well-managed practice facility
Play golf with a variety of members and/or guests as time permits or ride the course weekly
Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff.
Golf Administration

Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all golf departments and F&B staff; maintain accurate payroll records
Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff.
Attend staff meetings as scheduled by management and schedule staff meetings with golf operations personnel
Update and maintain golf shop policies, procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to and posted in the proper areas
Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements
Assist in the publications of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials
Oversee the administration of the golf handicap program
Work closely with and provide guidance and consultation with all golf committees
Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility
Setup regular written communication with supervisors to include: facility, programming, staff and customer updates
All other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
Fundamental supervisory practices and principles

Experienced computer user including; Microsoft Outlook, Point of Sale, Handicapping & tournament, as well as other applications, i.e. email, internet, database
Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent: Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Head Professional, GM/Head Professional or General Manager
PGA Member or Apprentice Head Professional is preferred

Chester: pro shop attendants, cart/range attendants, starters, food and beverage.

Fort Mill: pro shop attendants, cart/range attendants, starters.

Lancaster: pro shop attendants, cart/range attendants, starters, food and beverage.

Springfield: pro shop attendants, cart/range attendants, starters.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects when needed. Most work is sedentary; it may be necessary to remain on feet for extended periods of time.
