FLYERS Afterschool Activity Specialist

OVERVIEW

Bring your talent or skill to the FLYERS Afterschool Program. Teach a specific, specialized activity (music, art, sport, language, etc.) appropriate to Elementary School children’s age and abilities while maintaining a safe and fun environment. This is a part time position that reports to the Area Coordinator.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Able to lead and teach specialized skills
  • Develop and deliver specialized programming activities according to the abilities of the children
  • Create skill building activities that can be done by the children to provide challenges and build their skills
  • Supervise and participate with children in activities
  • Assist in organization of group and discipline
  • Maintain high standards of safety and security to prevent accidents and to respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Maintain, use and store any specialized equipment properly; report repairs
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in general used areas
  • All other job duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge and ability to teach in area of specialization
  • Be a role model to children and staff in your attitude and behavior
  • Set a good example for children and others
  • Participate enthusiastically in all activities
  • Promote good sportsmanship/collaboration
  • Ability to interact with all age levels
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Any certification necessary for facilitating given skill

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects when needed. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time.
