Compile, analyze, research and process data for personal property tax and personal property tax replacement/recovery return compliance and audits. Analyze and review assessed value notices and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.  Research and gather data for property tax appeals and audits.  Maintain property tax calendars and prepare monthly/quarterly metrics and statistics.  Work with business units to timely obtain complete and accurate information to support the property tax function in accordance with SOX controls. Manage the department in-box.

Essential Duties Include:

Property Tax Compliance: (40%)

·       Compile, analyze and research data for tax return compliance.

·       Prepare personal property tax work paper files and reconcile return data to company financial records.

·       Prepare and review tax return checklists for completeness.

·       Update filing calendar and state methodologies to reflect current filing requirements.

·       Examine current processes to improve efficiency and quality of work product.

 

Manage Personal Property tax replacement/recovery process: (30%)

·       Ability to analyze and interpret state and local property tax replacement/recovery laws and regulations.

·       Analyze data for qualifying equipment and prepare system update templates.

·       Evaluate location additions and changes and prepare system update templates.

·       Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual personal property tax replacement/recovery filings.

·       Prepare funding requests and process payments through third-party vendor system (Anybill).

·       Follow-up on outstanding checks.

 

Property Tax Audits and Assessment appeals: (20%)

·       Evaluate Assessment Reports for material variances.

·       Provide third-party vendor with additional information needed for follow-up and corrective action with Jurisdictions.

·       Compile required documents, reports or analytics, and other activities necessary.

 

 

 

Assist with the Tax Controllership function of property tax: (7%)

·       Prepare, review and execute funding requests. Reconcile payments to the company’s general ledger accounts.

·       Assist Property Tax Manager with monthly reconciliation process, internal audit requests, property tax audit information requests and property tax return reconciliations.

·       Reconcile the property tax balance sheet accounts and income statement accounts on a monthly basis to ensure automated journal entries for accruals and payments are timely, accurate, and complete.

·       Ensure SOX compliance documentation is kept up to date and that all requirements are met.

·       Responsible for timely responses to inquiries from internal and external customers.

 

Process Personal Property Tax bills: (3%)

·        Work with third-party vendor to research orphan bills and provide guidance regarding processing.

·       Communicate with jurisdictions regarding billing errors.

·       Prepare funding requests for Orphan/Audit bills and process payments through third-party vendor system (Anybill) and follow-up on outstanding checks.

Special Projects:

·       Additional duties or projects as assigned.

 

Education

·       Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Business or comparable work experience required.

 

Position Requirements

·       1-2 years of multi-state Personal Property Tax experience.  Specific knowledge of the construction rental industry a plus.

·       Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word and Outlook.  SQL database a plus.

·       Must have excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external contacts professionally.
