Specialist, Cost Accounting


3D Systems, a leading global provider of 3D printing solutions is seeking an individual to support the Global Cost Accounting team based in Rock Hill, SC.  This position will support Global based functions, but will include involvement in US transactions as well.  This person will work closely with the Manager of Global Cost Accounting to establish process improvements and standardization aimed at improving the efficiency of all costing processes and analysis.  Candidate will be expected to enhance existing or develop new processes & procedures and perhaps supervise the work of others.

  • Quarterly Excess and Obsolete review and analysis
  • Monthly WIP and inventory valuation and reconciliation to the general ledger ensuring that any differences are investigated and resolved in a timely manner
  • Provide support for internal and external audits, including preparing position memos and documentation for review of critical judgements
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations for production related accounts
  • Provide monthly inventory reports, highlighting areas of risk or opportunities for improvement in inventory management
  • Review of inventory reports and files to ensure accuracy
  • Assist with site invoices regarding coding issues or hold/receiving errors
  • Partner with GBS, monthly assistance on journal entries and cost allocations
  • Work with Manufacturing & Supply Chain on inventory and accounting issues
  • Monitoring, analysis and reporting on the impact of price/cost changes within the business
  • Analysis of Purchase Price Variance
  • Analysis and review of standard cost and actual cost on BOM’s
  • Monitoring and reporting Material costs, Material Overhead, Labor, and Factory Overhead
  • Support new product development with costing analysis
  • Maintenance of the standard costing system including cost roll-ups for new and existing products, ensuring these are accurate and consistent
  • Support the development of forecasting, reporting and ERP enhancements
  • Assisting with cost-down programs and monthly reporting
  • Analysis of Manufacturing Spending and Absorption
  • Analysis of margin by product line
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls, assist with site testing as needed
  • Ad hoc requests for information as needed to help support the business

Education and Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field
  • Master’s degree, CMA, or CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working in a cost accounting environment, with an understanding of the manufacturing process and standard costs
  • 2+ years of general accounting experience outside of cost accounting
  • Inventory experience
  • Bill of Material (BOM) experience
  • Experience with Oracle Financial Systems or other major ERP system
  • Experience of working for a US parent company in a multinational environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong grasp of US GAAP
  • Basic knowledge of IFRS
  • Practical experience of MRP / ERP systems and standard costing
  • Highly competent and diligent individual with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to understand costs and efficiencies
  • Advanced Excel skills
