- BS in Mechanical Engineering or engineering-related discipline
- Demonstrated track record of implementation of lean manufacturing tools and techniques delivering significant business results
- Lean Six Sigma or SPS Green Belt required, Black belt preferred
- Minimum 3 years lean manufacturing experience
- Strong, direct project management experience in the design/manufacture of products
- Background in Light Manufacturing or Assembly Operations preferred
- Background in Playbook operations, work instructions, and people training/coaching preferred
- Project prioritization and project management experience required
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies preferred
- Proficiency with MS Office & Computer Aided Design (CAD), both 2D & 3D
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP System preferred

What You’ll Do As a Lean Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll be part of our Global Tools & Storage team located in Fort Mill, SC. Stanley Black and Decker’s Carolinas Manufacturing Operation is seeking a highly motivated, creative manufacturing problem solver. Continuous improvement is engrained in the culture at SB&D and this role will help us accelerate the transformation of our facility’s value chain to deliver best-in-class power tools to our customers at a best-in-class fill rate. Ideal candidates will roll up their sleeves from Day One, spreading new ideas and driving results. Specifically, you’ll:
- Manage facility-wide Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) Program to optimize business to best service our customers; including but not limited to:
- Building / managing Kaizen Event Schedule(s)
- Event / project preparation and facilitation
- Operator Training & Engagement
- Spreading lean culture across all levels of the organization on a daily basis
- Develop and maintain process best practices with an intense focus on standard work
- Identifies and recommends improvements
- Provides guidance in preparing details to assist in improving processes
- Identifies the key areas for improving standards and incorporates new techniques to enhance the existing operating standards.
- Involved in preparing the documentation for the improved processes
- Deliver cost reduction projects (inventory, direct/indirect labor, cost per tool, etc.)
- Collect, analyze, summarize, and present process data (OEE) to management team
- Facility layout optimization leveraging lean cell design techniques
- Other duties as assigned

JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position is responsible for supporting the facilitation of a manufacturing team. The primary responsibility is to ensure the team has the tooling, equipment, processes, and procedures necessary to produce high quality parts safely and on time while improving productivity and efficiency. This position will mainly focus in Dressed Axles, but flexibility is a must and will be required as this position will help to support various lines. Job Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities: •Lead and provide support in the modification, planning, design, implementation, and validation of efficient processes and tooling using lean manufacturing principles and the Meritor Production System (MPS). •Utilize the MPS to conduct assessments of existing or proposed manufacturing processes to provide focused improvement opportunities to increase production efficiencies, eliminate waste, reduce inventory, reduce lead times, increase quality and improve safety and ergonomics. •Work with the material and logistics teams to plan the flow of materials into and out of manufacturing processes to maximize production efficiencies. •Justify and purchase capital equipment/tooling to improve or implement manufacturing processes. •Establish and document production standards and controls, conduct initial time studies and establish labor standards for all products as necessary. •Generate work instructions, process control procedures and operating procedures utilizing visual factory methods in the creation of the work environment. •Work with plant maintenance and contractor personnel to develop and install various equipment. •Work with plant operators to fine tune processes and procedures •Participate in PFMEA analysis, implement 5S improvements, and problem solving/rapid change Kaizen activities utilizing a cross functional team environment. •Evaluate current-state plant layouts and develop future state designs through use of AutoCAD and lean principles •Ability to use 3D modeling to read, modify, and generate new and reverse engineered parts and drawings. •Be a contributing member of a continuous improvement and employee-involved culture
JOB REQUIREMENTSQUALIFICATIONS Qualifications: •Bachelor’s level degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is required. (Associates Degree with 10+ years of experience will be considered) •Minimum of 5 years’ work history in a manufacturing production environment required. •People/Project Management experience is a preferred. •Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies, Greenbelt certification preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: •Excellent written and verbal communication skills. •Team orientation with the ability to work with others. •Hands-on preference to work in manufacturing floor area. •Strong problem solver. •Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines. •Continuous improvement driven with a willingness to adopt new ideas/skills. •User of appropriate MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). •User of 2D and 3D modeling software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, and/or Creo). •Highly mechanically inclined. •Experience with IE, Lean practices, and line balancing. •Familiar with SPC, CapEx, and project management. •Tool room experience (mill, lathe, welding, etc.) •GD&T is a plus. •Understanding of PLC programming is a plus. Additional Responsibilities: •Ensures compliance to Standards of Business Conduct through familiarity with related policies and procedures to IATF16949 Encourages subordinates in the importance of full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies and procedures. •Assists in planning & implementation of quality policies in accordance with corporate and plant guidelines meeting customer expectations. •Provides technical assistance to Assembly Process and Engineering work group in support of projects and manufacturing goals. •Assists in the selection and purchase of process equipment used for assembly, material handling, and quality assurance as prescribed by the Capital Plan and AOP. •Serves as a technical resource to Assembly Maintenance Department in identifying and correcting non-routine or highly complex equipment problems. •Provides technical assistance to other engineering work groups as requested in the areas of hydraulics, pneumatics, material handling or special electrical projects •Maintains technical documentation and software in direct support of manufacturing equipment and plant facilities. Updates and generates control diagrams, technical manuals and software printouts to provide accurate and redundant information and data archives. •Communicates well, both verbal and written. •Develops resources for improvements in equipment and assembly processes and stays abreast of changes in technology and means of application, as they relate to electrics, electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics. •Develops and maintains interpersonal skills-maintains above average relationship with other plant personnel and vendors. •Develops contractual documents and specifications for purchase of equipment and components. •Support new Launch programs by managing APQP (GP3) project timing.
