JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Position Objective:
The Cloud Engineer is responsible for leading the creation of a technology framework and providing technical leadership in support of Sunbelt’s initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms. The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery.
Position Responsibilities:
Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)
Demonstrate knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes
Act as Subject Matter Expert to the organization for cloud end-to-end architecture, including Azure and future providers, networking, provisioning and management
Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc.
Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS and other cloud services
Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks
Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications
Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, product configuration, unit testing and production deployment
Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements
Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue
Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment and operations
Requirements:
Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective including internal and external platforms, tools and systems
Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks
Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study or equivalent experience
10+ years of experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operations
Practical experience with Cloud methodologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), automation, orchestration, trends and industry-leading cloud vendor offerings
Experience in architecting and implementing cloud-based solutions with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery requirements
3+ years’ experience designing, building and automating solutions utilizing Azure services
3+ years’ experience working with cloud automation tools such as Terraform
3+ years’ experience in building CI/CD pipeline automation in tools like Jenkins/Bitbucket
3+ years’ experience working in DevOps team/organizations with applied Agile development practices
Hands on experience with Docker, Kubernetes and container orchestration
Physical Demands:
Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job. Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work.
