Company Spotlight: The Catawba Regional Council of Governments
The Catawba Regional Council of Governments provides assistance to local governments in York, Lancaster, Union, and Chester counties. As a platform for intergovernmental cooperation, the COG is a central point for staffing resource for grantsmanship, land use and transportation planning, community and economic development, workforce investment, GIS mapping, information systems, and project management.
The COG began in 1970, and in 1975 began working with The Economic Development Administration (EDA), which provide assistance to local governments and states in enhancing economic growth and creating jobs. The company also works with EDA to analyze the economy and develop an annual Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for its coverage area.
Since York County is the largest and most rapidly growing county in the region, the Catawba Regional Council of Governments understands the importance of planning as well as job training and has a team of professional planners. Catawba Regional is available to assist local communities as needed in zoning regulations, historic preservation planning, and other specialized planning projects. The COG now offers aerial imaging via drones from heights of feet. The Catawba Regional’s UAV pilot is certified under the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Part 107 regulations and is used for utility right of way inspection, GIS, disaster management, construction sites, agricultural monitoring, and more.
