Company Spotlight: Carowinds

Carowinds is an amusement park located on 400-acres right on the border between in North and South Carolina. Inspired by Disneyland, Charlotte businessman Earl Patterson Hall opened Carowinds on March 31, 1973. The park has changed shape several times since then, becoming a movie-themed attraction under the ownership of Paramount Pictures from 1993 to 2006. It’s currently owned by Cedar Fair who has brought the park back to its roots, investing in the story of the Carolinas without backing down from innovation and growth.

“Carowinds is the place where the Carolinas come together. Located off I-77 (Exit 90) at the NC/SC border, the premier entertainment destination of the Carolinas touts world-class thrill rides, live music and entertainment, delicious dining options featuring authentic Carolina cuisine, immersive seasonal events and an all-new Camp Snoopy kids’ area.” –Carowinds.com

The park has grown exponentially over the past few years, encompassing 13 roller coasters, including the world’s tallest and fastest giga coaster. It also boasts a full waterpark, Carolina Harbor, with over 30 water slides and 6 pools. They’ve also integrated smartphones into the park-going experience with an app that offers ride wait-times, showtimes, and an interactive map.

Carowinds has nurtured the culture of its park with events like Great Carolina Fest, an ongoing summer celebration of food, craft beverages, and live music. They celebrated the Carolinas through tons of live entertainment and design, while not shying away from more exotic entertainment like Cirque imagine, a type of French performance art combining circus acts and dramatic theater.

“At Carowinds, we have plenty of exciting rides and shows for everyone, and we are proud to have earned one of the best safety records in the industry. We are committed to providing our guests with a safe environment and enjoyable day.” – Carowinds.com

In 2001, the park introduced Scarowinds, a Halloween attraction that takes over Carowinds, transforming it into a fright-filled park with a slew of haunted houses and scare zones populated by costumed creatures. This seasonal add-on was joined in 2017 by WinterFest, a light-covered celebration of The Holidays.
